Raymond F. "Sarge" Wilson

Wilson, Raymond F. "Sarge", 90, of Wellsburg, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, in Valley Haven Geriatric Center, Beech Bottom, W. Va. He was born Jan. 21, 1911, in Buchtel, Ohio, a son of the late James R. and Gertrude Wilson; two brothers, Frank and James Wilson; and four sisters, Hazel O'Neil, Mina Liston, Alice Bowers Kemper and Mary Keeney' and a great-grandson, Curtis Michael Van Horn. He was retired from Bethany College Maintenance Department. He was a World War II veteran of 73rd Fighters Squadron of the 7th Army Air Force, 318th Fighter Group. He was a member of the V. F. W. Post 4496 of Wellsburg. Sarge will be remembered for his storytelling. Surviving are his wife, Roseanna "Cleo" Schwertfeger Wilson, at home; a son, Lloyd T. "Peanut" Van Horn and his wife, Judy of wellsburg; two brothers, Orville Wilson of Benwood and Woodrow Wilson of Weirton; three sisters, Gertrude Porter, Adrian Hayes, both of Wellsburg and Vivian Rodler of Illinois; several nephews, among them Jay Schwertfeger of Bethany, W. Va. and David Hayes of Wellsburg; several nieces, among them Cheri Koscevic and Marie Hunt, both of Wellsburg; two grandchildren, Amy Rice of Wellsburg and Mark Van Horn of Wellsburg; and two great-grandchildren, Eden and Zachary. Arrnagements by Chambers Funeral Home, Wellsburg. Interment in Prall Cemetery, West Liberty, W. Va.
