Russell w. Gorby, 88, passed away at his home in St. Marys, WV on Saturday, September 19, 2009
He was born in Tyler County a son of the late John H. and Ala A. Baker Gorby. He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Mae Dailey Gorby; his second wife, JoAnn Gorby; a daughter, Millicent Gorby; three sisters, Ruby Wilson, Helen Hammontree and Susannah Baker; and a brother, John Gorby Jr.
A resident of Chester for most of his life, worked as a maintenance supervisor at the former Harker China Co. and had worked as a welder at the former Crucible Steel.
He proudly served his country during WWII with the Army in the Pacific Theater and was a lifetime member of Chester VFW Post 6450 and American Legion Post 121.
He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Smith of St. Marys and Michelle Swope of Paden City; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Fairbanks, Alexandra Smith and Laura Smith; and beloved friend, Linda Reynolds.
Graveside services were held Thursday, September 24, 2009 at the Pierpoint Cemetery in Tyler County where Pastor Jimmy Cooley officiated.
