FAIRLAWN, Ohio – Lois Evelyn (nee Russell) McHenry died at 9:03 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at the VNS Hospice Facility in Fairlawn.
She was born Jan. 4, 1910, in East Liverpool. She was the daughter of the late Florence (nee Glenn) and Marlow Russell.
Lois graduated with honors from East Liverpool High school in 1928 and was an enthusiastic member of the Hi-Tri-Club during her high school years. She was happiest when she was designing and tailoring her own clothes, which she did for many years. She was considered an excellent seamstress.
In 1960 Lois opened and managed the first Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio in East Liverpool. She was a member of the East Liverpool Business and Professional Women’s Club and the Quota Club. She was an active participant, for several years, in the East Liverpool Speech and Hearing Clinic.
Her late husband, Paul E. McHenry, preceded her in death on March 17, 1998. He was one of East Liverpools two original founders of Handy Sales and Service.
Survivors include her brother, Glenn Russell of Venice, Fla., three children, Sue (Jack) Berling of Cincinnati, Ohio, Vicki (Ken) Gessford of Stow, Ohio, and Steve (Katy) McHenry of Dayton, Ohio; also four grandchildren, Ben (Laura) Gessford of Woodbridge, Va.; Pete (Rita) Gessford of Canton, Ohio, Paul(Audrey) McHenry of Columbus, Ohio and Jillian (Joseph) Macau of Orlando, Fla.; and a great grandchild, McKenna Gessford.
Lois was a long time resident of the East Liverpool area and spent several of her latters at the Stow Glen Retirement Center in Stow, Ohio. Lois will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
The Rev. Mark Richardson of the First Christian Church of Stow will conduct a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, at the Dawson Funeral Home, 215 W. Fifth St., East Liverpool. Relatives and friends will be received one hour prior to the memorial service.
Family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center following the service.
