EAST LIVERPOOL – William Donald McHenry, 79, of Thompson Ave., passed away peacefully at home on ‘Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, following a brief illness.’ He was the son of the late William F. and M. Elizabeth (Muffley) McHenry, born in East Liverpool on Feb. 3, 1927. Living his entire live in the area, Mr. McHenry was owner of Hoges Restaurant in East Liverpool for 37 years. He retired from the Ohio Power Company after 42 years of service.
Mr. McHenry was a graduate of East Liverpool High School and a veteran of the U. S. air Force serving from 1945 to 1947. He was a charter member of Calcutta Lions Club, where he was Lion of the year in 1994 and served many years on the Board of Directors. He belonged to the Blue and White Touch Down Club and coached the Dixonville Viking’s for the Bill booth Little League. Enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family and decorating his home for Christmas.
His wife, V. Pear McHenry, whom he married June 19, 1950, survives him; a son Bill McHenry of Calcutta; four daughters, Cindy Kreefer of East Liverpool, Cathy Dray of East Liverpool, Tammy Layfield of New Waterford and Pam McHenry of Wellsville; two son –in-laws, Mike Kreefer and Chris Layfield; as sister, Betty Rogers of Mesa, Aria.; 12 grandchildren, Michael, David and Steven McHenry, Kristen, Justin and ‘Brian Kreefer, Jessica and Courtney Dray, Christopher McHenry, Nicole Layfield, Tyler and Timothy Thrasher, one great-grandchild, Kylie Kreefer. Don, also known as “Big Daddy” will be missed by many friends.
Besides his parents, Mr. McHenry was preceded in death by a daughter, Keborah Kay McHenry and a sister, Virginia McHenry.
Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeryer Funeral Homes on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Sturm officiating.
Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.
The family will be present to receive friends a the funeral home in Calcutta today, Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, form 2 to 8 p.m.
Memorial donation may be made to the Calcutta Lions Club.
