STUAT, Fla. –David Louis Sanford, 70, formerly of East Liverpool, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at the East Liverpool City Hospital Emergency Room after suddenly taking ill. He had been in the area visiting his mother-in-law Helen White.
Born in East Liverpool, Feb. 13, 1933, he was the son of the late Vernon D. and Grace Twyford Sanford.
A member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1950, he furthered his education at The Ohio State University, where he graduated in 1959 from its College of Engineering. In 1962, he moved to Florida, where he worked as an aeronautical design engineer for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft until his retirement in 1998 after more than 25 years of service. He also owned and operated the Sanford Co. form 1977 to 1983.
A veteran of Korea, he served with the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1953. He was also active with Alpha Ministries in Florida.
His wife, Harriet White Sanford, survives at home. The couple married June 25, 1954.
Two daughters survive, Mrs. Rick (Brenda) Hudson of Bowlegs, Okla., and Mrs. Tom (Diana) Charland of Melbourne, Fla., as well as two sons, David Loyal Sanford and his wife Andrea of Hobe Sound, Fla., and James Sanford and his wife Linda of Stuart, Fla.
There are 11 grandchildren: Stephanie Sanford, Sarah, Levi, Joshua, Elijah and Mary Hudson, Jamie, Abigail and Jonathan Sanford and Dakota and Chloe Charland.
A sister, Marjorie “Peggy” Cunningham, and a mother-in-law Helen White, both of East Liverpool, survive as well as Mrs. Rev. Rick (Vivian ) Ketterman of Toledo and Mrs. Rev. Brian (Joan) Wilson of Chicago, who resided with Mr. and Mrs. Sanford for several years as teenagers.
A brother, Roger Sanford, preceded Mr. Sanford in death.
Friends may call Tuesday at the Dawson Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
A son-in-law, Rick Hudson, will officiate a funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.
