EAST LIVERPOOL – Longtime educator and lifelong student Mary Ruth Bebout, 80, of West Fourth Street died at 4:20 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at East Liverpool City Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in Cameron, W.Va., Feb. 2, 1923, daughter of the late Harry and Odessa Pearl Yeater King, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was an active leader in many church activities and functions, as well as being a Sunday school teacher.
Most of her life was spent in the East Liverpool area.
She began her teaching career at Hammondsville Elementary School before joining the East Liverpool City School system, where she taught at Glenmoor, Taft and North Elementary school until retiring in 1988.
A member of the East Liverpool Business and Professional Women and Delta Kappa Gamma, she also was a volunteer for the F.I.S.H. organization.
Her husband, John F. Bebout, whom she married Jan. 7, 19445, died may 7, 1987. A grandson, Brian Moore, also preceded her in death along with two brothers.
Three daughters, Sharon Smith of Garland, Texas, Mrs. Tom (Patty) Gulutz of East Liverpool and Mrs. Tim (Diana ) Grafton of Arlington, Texas, survive.
There are six grandsons, Don Cochran, David Moore, Dean Cochran, Vince Gulutz, Doug Moore and Justin Gulutz. Four great-grandchildren, Dillon Cochran, Garrett Cochran, Gina Gulutz and Delaney Cochran, also survive.
Friends may call today at the Dawson Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
The Rev. Dave Maly will conduct services at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park. Following burial, family and friends will gather at First United Methodist Church for fellowship.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the First United Methodist Church, 200 W. Fifth St., East Liverpool, OH 43920.
